I did it as a favor for a Centre County Reads project, that chose Dashiell Hammett&#8217;s <em>The Maltese Falcon<\/em> as their 2010 book. It&#8217;s a hardboiled, gin-joint read, fun in part to glimpse the sexual politics of 1930. Sam Spade seems to sleep with every available female in the storyline, and isn&#8217;t shocked about the gay crime partners in the least.
