Glory of Yellowstone on 4th of July

So one of my favorite places in the U.S. and the world is Yellowstone. While Old Faithful and the geyser basins accessible by car are all fine and dandy, the real charm of our greatest National Park is its backcountry. Here’s a photo taken while kayaking on the southern shore of Yellowstone Lake in 2024, a fabulous trip full of wind and rain and glorious lake. Our first day it rained while we paddled and the waves rocked our kayaks, but the sun came out as soon as we got to our campsite. Behind us the lake was filled with fog and mist and a cloud rainbow. If you look closely you can see a bald eagle flying between a couple of those snags.
